Cavendish takes first GC win with Ster ZLM Toer

Stage 3


The third stage of the Ster ZLM Toer was the most decisive with the route including many tough hills which whittled down the field and removed most of the sprinters apart from Cavendish. On the uphill finish Cavendish was beaten by Lars Boom but took strong control of the general classification with only one stage remaining.

Stage 4


Team Sky kept control of the peleton on the final stage ensuring Mark Cavendish was able to keep hold of the yellow jersey. It is Cavendish's 88th win but the first which is an overall victory in a stage race.
