Bradley Wiggins has won the Critérium du Dauphiné after the final mountain stage to La Toussuire today. Wiggins held the lead in the race since his second place finish in the individual time trial on Wednesday, and was able to comfortably maintain his advantage through the two mountain-top finishes this weekend. Both stages were won by Joaquin Rodriguez but he was no threat for the overall win having lost nearly four minutes on the time trial.
The victory is the biggest road race win of Wiggins' career. It is only his second stage race win following a victory in the Herald Sun Tour in 2009. Wiggins is only the third British rider to win the Critérium du Dauphiné following Robert Millar in 1990 and Brian Robinson in 1961.
Overall Result
1. Bradley Wiggins - Sky
2. Cadel Evans - BMC +1'26"
3. Alexandre Vinokourov - Astana +1'49"
