Wiggins wins road race

Bradley Wiggins took victory in the British Championships road race to add to his time trial victory from last September. Wiggins was one of many Sky riders in an initial breakaway of twelve. This then split leaving three of Team Sky clear - Peter Kennaugh, Geraint Thomas and Wiggins. The trio then worked together to build an insurmountable lead over the remains of the breakaway. Kennaugh was the first to try and get away but was brought back by Thomas allowing Wiggins to counter-attack and he quickly built up a 30 second lead to take his first road race title. Reigning champion Thomas took second ahead of Kennaugh who has now finished on the podium four years in a row.
