Bradley Wiggins wins stage and overall at Paris - Nice

Bradley Wiggins has won Paris - Nice becoming only the second British rider to win the historic race after Tom Simpson in 1967. Wiggins went into the final stage time trial up the Col d'Èze with a six second lead over Lieuwe Westra. The mountain time trial became a dual between these two riders who were significantly quicker than the rest of the field. Westra led by two seconds at the first check-point and went on to post an impressive time of 19'14". The climbed levelled out towards the end and Wiggins was able to claw back the time on Westra to win the stage by two seconds himself and secure the overall victory.

Paris - Nice stage 2

Bradley Wiggins has taken over the lead of Paris - Nice after the race was broken into pieces on the road to Orléans. Several echelons formed due to the strong crosswinds and although the peloton reformed a strong lead group had built up a two minute lead that they would keep to the finish. Sky duo Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas were in the group along with a quartet from Omega Pharma-Quick Step including Levi Leipheimer. Other overall contenders to make the group of 21 were Alejandro Valverde, Tejay Van Garderen, Simon Spilak and Robert Kiserlovski. It now looks unlikey that anyone else will challenge with the peloton having lost 2'29" by the finish.

Tom Boonen won the sprint from the group ahead of JJ Rojas and John Degenkolb.

However Tiernan-Locke's performance was enough to move himself past Wout Poels into second in the final classification.

Paris - Nice stage 1

Bradley Wiggins came within a second of winning the opening of Paris - Nice, a 9.4km individual time trial from Dampierre-en-Yvelines to Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. Gustav Larsson set the leading mark early before the expected rain arrived. Wiggins set off third last and had to take care around the corners in the wet and slippery conditions.
