Bradley Wiggins has taken over the lead of Paris - Nice after the race was broken into pieces on the road to Orléans. Several echelons formed due to the strong crosswinds and although the peloton reformed a strong lead group had built up a two minute lead that they would keep to the finish. Sky duo Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas were in the group along with a quartet from Omega Pharma-Quick Step including Levi Leipheimer. Other overall contenders to make the group of 21 were Alejandro Valverde, Tejay Van Garderen, Simon Spilak and Robert Kiserlovski. It now looks unlikey that anyone else will challenge with the peloton having lost 2'29" by the finish.
Tom Boonen won the sprint from the group ahead of JJ Rojas and John Degenkolb.
