A 12km individual time trial formed the second and final stage of the Vuelta a Murcia. Jonathan Tiernan-Locke went into the test needing to make up 16 seconds on the leader Nairo Quintana. In the event Tiernan-Locke did beat his rival but only gained 10 seconds on the Colombian to finish a frustrating six seconds short. However Tiernan-Locke's performance was enough to move himself past Wout Poels into second in the final classification.
