Ben Swift won the seventh stage of the Tour of Britain after being setup perfectly by his teammate Filippo Pozzato. It is Swift's first victory as a professional. Boasson Hagen had to be content with third place on this occasion.
Earlier in the stage Barloworld had tried to challenge the yellow jersey. Juan Mauricio Soler and Geraint Thomas attacked up Cadbury Hill and gained a gap of around 30 seconds. Columbia-HTC however had enough strength to pull them back. Thomas also tried to attack on the final hill of the day but could not gain more than 5 seconds as Columbia-HTC and Katusha worked to setup the sprint finish.
